20% OFF Growth Removal

We offer a 20% OFF Growth Removal through out the month of July 2021.

Tumor prevention is usually not possible since most types of cancers occur due to a pet’s genetic makeup.

Dogs get a lot of tumors, both neutral or bad.
As a dog owner, you can help by being vigilant for lumps and tumors. It is a good idea to check the dog’s skin on a weekly basis and get any new lumps checked by Nohl Ranch Animal Hospital.

According to The National Cancer Institute for Cancer Research, over 6 million dogs are diagnosed with Cancer each year in United States.  It is one of the most common causes of death in older pets. Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells that commonly grows into tumors. These abnormal cells can spread to other parts of the body including skin, bones or organs.

Take an active role in your pet’s care! When you are petting your cat, rubbing your dog’s belly, or giving them a bath, take an extra minute to feel for lumps and bumps. Your extra love can be a life saver!

Treatment

Treatment for your pet’s mass depends upon the age and overall health of your friend as well as the type and location of mass.

Nohl Ranch Animal Hospital notes that surgical removal of certain canine mast cell tumors, those that have not metastasized or spread, may result in a cure.

However, having one mast cell tumor puts your pet at risk for developing more later in life, making careful monitoring is a priority.

Often times, bumps can feel benign, but we should still test them.

A soft, squishy lump under the skin may be a lipoma, which is a benign tumor made up of fat.

Lipomas generally do not require treatment. However, there are cancers that can feel like lipomas, but are malignant and we should examine and treat them.

we might need to do a fine needle aspirate and cytology to make certain that these bumps are truly lipomas and not something more concerning, like a mast cell tumor. Mast cell tumors can sometimes feel like lipomas, and it is very important to know for certain, because your pet’s prognosis and treatment depend on it.

The bottom line is that all bumps should be examined by our Doctor.

What do these growths mean? Are they tumors? Are they cysts? Is it cancer? As a pet owner, it can be helpful for you to understand the different types of lumps, bumps, and growths commonly seen on dogs and cats. The most important thing to remember is to seek advice from your trusted veterinarian.
